Here is the list of ingredients:
- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 3 cups cool water
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 9 cups whole wheat flour
- egg wash (1 egg mixed with 1 Tablespoon water)
- sesame seeds for topping
Mix the starter, water, salt and as much flour as is needed to make a good dough - a bit wet, but not sticky.

Dust bowl with flour and cover the dough in the flour, cover, and let rest until the dough has doubled in size. (This set can take up to 4 hours as it does in my rather chilly kitchen.)
Punch down the dough and let rise again.
Punch down again...
...and then shape as many bread sticks and loaves as you want to make...
|About this size per bread stick|
...brush with egg wash and then top with seeds and let rise.
When the bread sticks are doubled, cook at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes.
And then when the bread is doubled (these will taken longer than the bread sticks), put in the oven at 500 for 10 minutes and then cook for another 30 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
